(Hobbyist) Music Delivery

I've been recording 1-3 hour (occasionally longer) sessions of music and posting them to the internet as bigass .mp3 files for about 15 years now. As the quality of the music has steadily icnreased, I've also been looking at ways of making it more accessible (very few people can commit to listening to 2 hours of a single mp3). So after the last session, I thought it would be nice to mix it into individual tracks, naming them as I edit the session.

What I determined was that individual tracks were great! I thought about it some more and decided I could have both, generating the bigass mp3 files and indexing them (much as brainal.org does, but more intelligently. And then I realized I could parse the .RPP (REAPER project file) projects from the last 12 years or so, and generate a list of songs (from places where it was clear everything was edited) for each session. It doesn't work totally reliably, as there are plenty of places where two or three songs flow into eachother. But that's OK.

Anyway, so you might have noticed on this page the full jam links have been replaced with individual song/supersong links. We've been going through naming them as appropriate.

The other nice thing about this is that we can pull these feeds into our band websites...

I always thought that the old website format for displaying your music and your ideas was superior in comparison with the ``new'' one (Javascript, AJAX, Clippy, Autoload, WHUMP, status bar as player, and 310MB just for the front page, etc); it's confusing to navigate and search for things. If I am not mistaken the old format had licensing and credits too which was informative and useful (like Dr. Askave album).

Ideally I would go with something simple and straight forward like allowing streaming, individual song download and in case of an album an additional download all. Also have in mind that some people don't like to stream videos for a long listening session due to CPU/RAM usage, etc.

The worst of all is that something tells me that the old format is still available but the link is somewhere buried...

Anyway, I realize that those are not a priority and you have so much going on, so not much of a problem for me; the quality of the music has indeed increased, I wish you the best for your future endeavors.

And by the way, what's the difference of -yes, exactly, yes!- and -decanted youth-?

Hmm, I thought about it for a moment and the thing that stand out from the old format was the logical separation. You had a nice place dedicated for music delivery and discovery that become WHUMP and lost its charm, then you had your blog for things you typed and then you had your youtube channel for videos and it was nice to make a choice depending the mood; that made sense back then and I think still do today.

Nowadays, in contrast you have turned your blog to a random feed of stuff slow to load. I'd rather have a link like -Yes, Exactly, Yes! December 2019- point to a playlist at youtube from loading all those youtube frames in the blog. Or if you like it the way it is make some kind of taxonomy and place tags videos/text/music. Finally, definitely kill the autoload...

Hmm I think the only real problem is the embedding of youtube videos, perhaps I should change those to simple links.

We love it anyway, but I guess that would help.
